October Virtual Event
31 October 2020
Come and join us on a virtual run this month to help raise money for All Call Signs (https://allcallsigns.org).
During the COVID-19 pandemic many charities have seen their income and donations significantly reduce. We ran a virtual lucky dip medal event in August with the medals left over from our events which raised money for Lupus UK and this month we are supporting the All Call Signs charity.
All Call Signs are a charity providing a valuable life line for vulnerable veterans and serving armed forces.
Here's what All Calls Signs say on their website:
Too many ex-servicemen and women have nowhere to turn when life gets tough. As we come to terms with the number of service personnel and veterans out there suffering with mental health issues and the strain this puts on an already overwhelmed health service, we must do what we always do; turn to one another. That is the ethos and mission statement of All Call Signs: Camaraderie in the face of adversity, whether in uniform or out.
All Call Signs is a peer-to-peer chat service. If you need to talk, push the button and we’ll connect you to someone who has been there, done that, got the tour shirt. It is not weak to need help once in a while and it certainly is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. We’re all in this together and we’re here for you.
Run at least 5km, which is equivalent to one lap at some of our events and we will send you one of the random medals we found lurking in the lockup. The entry fee for the event is £7.50 with all profits going to All Call Signs, after Full On Sport (the online events provider we use) admin fees and postage we expect a minimum of £5 per entrant to go to charity.
We also have an option for you to enter the virtual run without getting a random medal for a reduced entry fee of £6.00.
So what do you have to do after entering the event?
- Run or walk at least 5km on or before the 31st October 2020.
- Send your evidence (photo of Strava, Garmin, Polar, phone app or other means) to virtual@onthewhistle.co.uk on or before 31st August 2020.
- Wait for your medal to arrive in the post (if you selected the medal option). We will post the medals out in one batch after the close the event.
We will be posting out all medals in one hit at the post office so they will go out at the start of November 2020.
